We would like to introduce you to our supply priest team who have enthusiastically agreed to provide our spiritual leadership during the transition from Tim’s departure until we call a new rector.

The Rev. Patty Alexander

The Rev. Patty Alexander was ordained in 2001 and since that time has served as both a parish priest in the Diocese of New York and a school chaplain in the Diocese of Washington.  She currently ministers to middle and upper school students, parents, and faculty at St. Andrew’s Episcopal School in Potomac, Maryland, where she also chairs the Philosophy and Religion Department.  In addition, she serves as an adjunct instructor at the Virginia Theological Seminary and a member of the faculty of the Deacons’ School of the Dioceses of Virginia, Southern Virginia, and Southwestern Virginia.

Mother Patty holds an undergraduate degree in English Language and Literature from Yale University; a Master of Arts degree in English Literature from the Bread Loaf School of English at Middlebury College; and a Master of Divinity from the Virginia Theological Seminary. This fall she begins work toward a Certificate in Women in Leadership through Cornell University.

Mother Patty is also a clergy spouse.  She is married to the Rev. Randy Alexander, Rector of Immanuel on-the-Hill, Alexandria, VA, and they are the proud parents of three sons: William (16), Peter (14), and Andrew (11).

Having served as a supply priest at the Christ Churches a few times in the past couple of years, Mother Patty is delighted to return to help out during this interim period.

The Rev. David Crosby

Following a 26 year+ career with VISA USA, and some wilderness walking, We would like to introduce you to our supply priest team who have enthusiastically agreed

He is now in training/formation for Interim Ministry and is excited to assist Christ Church(es) through this transition.  David is married to Chrissie; they have two black Labrador mixes (Lazarus & Gili) and live in Alexandria, VA.

The Rev. David Crosby received a call to holy orders, and graduated from Virginia Theological Seminary (VTS) in May 2012.

Supply Priest Schedule

Sunday School classes for Pre-K through Elementary age children will resume at the 11:00 a.m. service on September 10th in the Parish Hall nursery rooms.  The children will come from Sunday School classes into the Sanctuary during the passing of the Peace.  On the 4th Sunday of the month the children will attend the entire service.

From  Scotland:  North Sea Gas.  North Sea Gas is one of Scotland’s most popular folk bands will be at Christ Church, Old Durham Parish on Friday, September 15 at 7:00 p.m.  For more information. Contact Carol Lockamy at 240-346-4130.  Admission:  Free-will donation.

Adult Formation Class – Moses:  The Reluctant Prophet

Six Weeks of Sundays – September 24-October 29 – 9:45-10:45 a.m.

Our Old Testament readings this fall is the story of  Moses.  Enhance what you know about how God worked in his life with Adam Hamilton as he travels from Egypt to Mt. Sinai, the Nile, the Red Sea and the wilderness exploring the sites of Moses’ life.  Using historical information, archaeological data, and biblical text, Hamilton guides us in the footsteps of this reluctant who grew in his relationship with God and by the end of life had successfully fulfilled the role he was given.  Questions:  See Mary Kercher

Angel’s Watch Dinner.  September 29 is the date for Christ Church to provide dinner for the shelter.  Needed by Thursday, September 28, no later than 1:00 p.m. are:  baked chickens, apples, oranges, bananas, bagged salad mix, salad dressing, cookies, brownies, or other desserts.

Mark your contribution with your name and the date, and put meat and salads in refrigerator and anything else on the counter beside the stoves in the Parish Hall kitchen.

Saturday Afternoon Teas at Christ Church, La Plata.  The September tea is full.  If you wish to be on the waiting list (just in case someone cannot make it), let us know.  If you are at all interested in our November 4th tea, reserve your space now!  The teas are gaining a reputation and are filling up fast!  Reservations do not require payment until a month in advance.  Call 301-392-2051, email or see
