Do I have to be a member to attend worship or other church activities?
The answer is NO! You are welcome to attend any worship services, classes, or other activities without being a member. In fact, we encourage new people to become familiar with Christ Church and our ministries before making the decision to become a member.
What does it mean to “be a member” of this church?
To be a member of the church, a person first makes a commitment to God. This commitment involves seeking God’s forgiveness for the ways we have not loved God or others as Jesus taught us. We then promise to follow Jesus and strive to love God and others as he did. Becoming a member also involves making a commitment to the church community. Church members pray for each other; attend worship regularly; and support the work and ministries of the church.
How do I become a member of the church?
When a person makes a commitment to God and to the church community, he/she receives the Sacrament of Baptism in keeping with Jesus’ teachings. Baptism involves sprinkling or pouring water on a person’s head in the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit, and it is usually done during a Sunday worship service. In baptism, a person enters into a relationship with God and becomes a part of the Christian faith. When a person is baptized at Christ Church, they become a member of this congregation and the Episcopal Church.
What if I am a member of another church?
If you have been baptized and are currently a member of another church, we can transfer your membership to Christ Church. It is a very easy process, and our priest will help you with it. You do not need to be baptized again. The Sacrament of Baptism is only required once.
Is there someone I may speak to about becoming a member?
YES! If you have questions about membership or think you might be interested in becoming a member, speak to our priest (Fr. Tim) after worship, or contact the church office to make an appointment. He would love to speak with you! (301) 392-1051 or email@example.com
